Khary Blackmon, Founder and Executive Director,

Khary Blackmon, MS, LPC, NCC

Greetings! My name is Khary, but most of my friends and colleagues call me Ky. I am the Founder and Executive Director here at Triumph. I specialize in treating adolescent, and pre-adolescent young men but I have experience treating many other demographics. Click here to see more about my professional background. My counseling style is influenced by Cognitive Behavioral, Solution Focused and Adlerian theoretical orientations. Though knowledge and practice of these orientations are the greatest influences to my work as a therapist, I’ve also learned a great deal about effective therapy through my work in classrooms and educational systems.

In my experience in education, I’ve recognized that great teachers are able to consistently produce results for their students because they are intentional about setting the stage for learning. In the same regard, I set the stage for meaningful growth in therapy by first and foremost emphasizing what I call the 3 R’s: Rapport, Respect, and Real-World Application. People, young and old, need to feel safe in order to speak their truth. They also want to be confident that they receive a return on their emotional investment. The 3 R’s approach, consist of Rapport building, earning Respect , and clarification of how therapy can have Real-World application. It is my belief, that effective therapy rarely happens before these cornerstones of relationship building have been addressed. I believe that the effectiveness of this strategy is compounded when the therapist is able to relate to the client on a cultural level. This is why I found it imperative to start the Triumph Counseling Group, a practice dedicated to closing the barriers to effective mental health care. I look forward to meeting you and your family. I know there is a great deal that we can learn from one-another. God Bless!

Kerrie Blackmon, MS. Intake Coordinator, Education Consultant

Kerrie Adele, M.S, M.Ed

Hey, hey! I’m Kerrie! Here at Triumph, I am both the Intake Coordinator and Special Education Consultant. As Intake Coordinator, when you call us to schedule an appointment or have to handle anything business related, I’m the person you are going to talk to (yay!). I pride myself on professionalism, organization and efficiency so expect any dealings with me to be smooth and painless.

As Special Education Consultant, I help parents and guardians of children struggling academically, emotionally, or socially to advocate for their child’s best academic interest. Why am I qualified to do this you ask? I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Lincoln University of PA with a degree in Psychology. I would go on to earn my Master’s degree from Holy Family University in Special Education. I would go on from there and get a second Masters Degree in School Administration from the University of Pennsylvania. I have worked as certified special education teacher who has been teaching students with Emotional Support needs for over 15 years. Most recently I served as Director of Community Relations and Equity and Inclusion for one of the largest Public Schools in the city of Philadelphia.

My extensive experience and knowledge with special education documents such as Individual Education Plans (IEPs) Section 504 plans, PTEs, and Psychological Evaluations makes me a valuable resource for parents who are not familiar with the educational jargon and landscape in private and public education. In addition my work as Director of Equity of Inclusion make me a formidable advocate for the needs of our most at risk young people and their families.

I’ve dedicated my life to the idea that even the most challenging students have the potential for greatness and I feel blessed to get the opportunity to support them and show them the way.

Christina Neilson, Doctoral Candidate

Hey y’all! I’m Christina and I am a doctoral student and intern here at Triumph. I am also an educator and have primarily worked with non-profit programs serving students ages 17-21 y.ear olds who previously disengaged from school and are interested in earning their high school diploma as well as a vocational certificate and/or college credits.

I’ve always been drawn to and curious about how our experiences impact our beliefs and behaviors as well as our relationships. Through my personal and professional experiences, I really began to see and appreciate the immense power and potential of relationships as conduits for discovery, hope, healing/restoration and transformation. This translates into how I see and approach therapy; establishing a therapeutic relationship and creating an environment through which clients feel safe and comfortable to express themselves, explore their experiences and perspectives, and consider new possibilities.

Right now, my career goal is to work in a school to help facilitate this process of discovery, healing/restoration and transformation with students in a group setting. Ultimately, I hope to create more opportunities tobuild meaningful relationships, to learn and to grow together.
